You don't need perfectly balanced matchups for a great game, and you don't even need it for the weaker races/characters/factions to win. It is my view that if anything is different between the races that is substantive at all, the races will be unbalanced. I could say great things about Brood War all day but I want to ask anyone who begins here (the game is perfectly balanced and all disparities in tournament results recorded between the races are the exclusive result of 'skill issues') to answer what makes them certain that a game with such prominent uniqueness should result in complete and total balance? In game development true uniqueness always comes at the cost of balance which can only be achieved in a perfect mirror matchup, almost by definition.

It's an incredibly deep and interesting game that is challenging on all levels and super fun to spectate and play. The game has not been patched for literal decades and launched esports as we know it. Starcraft is a game of incomplete information where players select one of 3 optional races which have totally unique and distinct units and mechanics from one another.
